Large folio (46.5 x 54.5 cm), 2 volumes (1 text and 1 portfolio with plates). With 45 fine tinted lithographic views of sea-battles (25 x 38.5 cm). Monumental work on the most important Dutch sea battles and "Heroic deeds of the Dutch at sea" from the Middle ages to the first quarter of the nineteenth century. The work is very rare, especially in this complete state. It was issued in 15 instalments of 3 plates each, generally with 3 to 4 pages of explanatory text, in a strictly chronological order from 1218 to the re-establishment of a Dutch government in the East Indies in 1821. It was issued in 15 instalments of 3 plates each, generally with 3 to 4 pages of explanatory text, in a strictly chronological order from 1218 to the re-establishment of a Dutch government in the East Indies in 1821. The 45 lithographs for the Heldendaden were inspired by and also meant to accompany the Geschiedenis van het Nederlands zeewezen by J.C. de Jonghe (Amsterdam-1833-48). All plates are signed on the stone. The copy with ample margins. Text and plates occasionally slightly foxed? .
